NFL Quarterback Loses His Cool

Falcons' player Michael Vick apologized for making an obscene gesture toward Atlanta fans as he walked off the field after their fourth straight loss in a game yesterday.

After a pitiful 31-13 score with the New Orleans Saints at the Georgia Dome, Vick used both hands to deliver the gesture toward the remaining fans in the stadium, but only after they were shouting at him and booing him as he left the field.

"First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my inappropriate actions with fans today," Michael said in a statement released yesterday. "I was frustrated and upset at how the game was going for my team, and that frustration came out the wrong way."

He was only 7 off his NFL record for a quarterback, but had a rough day passing, finishing nine of 24 for 84 yards, but that wasn't all his fault. Atlanta receivers dropped at least five passes, and with the offensive line not providing enough protection, Vick was sacked three times and hit a dozen more behind the line of scrimmage after throwing passes.

Unfortunately, it got to him. "That's not what I'm about. That's not what the Atlanta Falcons are about. I simply lost my cool in the heat of the moment. I apologize and look forward to putting this incident behind me."

Luckily for him, reporters didn't know about the obscene gesture until afterward, allowing him to escape the attention of his actions at a postgame news conference.

Vick could face a fine of up to $5000 for making the gesture, but Greg Aiello, the NFL's Director of Public Relations, said the incident had not been reviewed yet.

Hand gesture notwithstanding, the loss hurt everyone. Anytime that the Falcons head coach Jim Mora and Pro Bowl tight end Alge Crumpler drop to their knees, simultaneously, "in dry heaves of frustration," you know it ain't been a good day.
