Actor Mike Evans Has Died
You might not recognize his name right away, but I bet you know his work. He was best known for playing Lionel on All in the Family, The Jeffersons and Good Times.
He died of throat cancer last week at his mother's home in Twentynine Palms, California.
Evans also created and wrote for "Good Times," one of the first TV comedy series to feature a mostly black cast. I never knew that!
He moved to Los Angeles when he was a child, and studied acting at Los Angeles City College. Evans took the role of Lionel when The Jeffersons first aired back in 1975. He was replaced for a four year period, but came back and reprised the role from 1979-81.
He also appeared in "Rich Man, Poor Man," "Love, American Style," "The Streets of San Francisco" and most recently, on an episode of "Walker, Texas Ranger" in 2000.
He was 57 years old.
