Carey v. Carey

Mariah Carey is headed to the courthouse to protect her name, according to MSNBC. Porn star Mary Carey is trying to trademark her name, which prompted Mariah Carey to try to block the trademark on the basis that fans could confuse Mary Carey and Mariah Carey. Well, the way Mariah dresses doesn't help either. Mariah's lawyers sent a letter threatening legal action if Mary Carey did not withdraw the application.

Mariah's lawyers stated: "MARY CAREY and MARIAH CAREY share the identical surname and have first names that are very similar," attorney Robert Becker wrote. And in part because the porn star was seeking the trademark for audio and video recordings, he said, "Confusion between your client and her MARY CAREY trademark and our client and its MARIAH CAREY trademark is therefore likely."

Mary Carey says that she is not intimidated by Mariah's legal move and she will keep trying to get "Mary Carey" trademarked despite Mariah's opposition. She says: "I'm ready to battle Mariah over this because I've been Mary Carey for a long time," Mary Carey told Reuters. "It's kind of funny because I'm a porn star and I've been being myself for a long time. I think she's being silly."
