It's Official: Brittany Murphy Got Married
For actress Brittany Murphy, the third time must be the charm. She has been engaged twice before, to best-boy grip Joe Macaluso (which ended last August) and Jeff Kwatinetz, CEO of Hollywood talent agency The Firm, in 2004. But she really pulled off a fast one, marrying Simon Monjack, the British writer and director of her latest project, on the sly.
"They were married at their home in Los Angeles several weeks ago in a very intimate ceremony," Murphy's rep tells People magazine. "It was officiated by a rabbi and they were surrounded by their families."
After the wedding, they were off to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby.
"This was our first trip as a married couple. We came to the Kentucky Derby and had a wonderful time," they said in a statement to People magazine yesterday.
Before their wedding, the stopped by famed jeweler Neil Lane to find an engagement ring, and left with two rings.
"They couldn't decide on one, so they got them both," Lane tells PEOPLE. "Simon told me: 'You know, you only live once.' He did it with a lot of love and sentiment. I've never had that happen to me before. It's so romantic."
Monjack, 37, got his start directing commercials, and most recently contributed to the story that became the movie Factory Girl and is getting ready to direct The White Hotel. Murphy, 29, will be starring in the project.
Her movies coming out this year include Tinker Bell, The Ramen Girl and Sin City 2.
