Cover Girl: Mandy Moore on Elle Magazine

Mandy Moore is a busy girl these days. Besides her newest album, and being on the cover of the May issue of Elle magazine, she also hit C Magazine as well. Here's a little excerpt from her Elle interview:

"Please fill me in on the particulars of your present romantic life."

"Oy. It's boring. Nobody wants to know about it. Honestly, I thought about that today, and I tried to figure out a polite or witty way to say, 'I don't want to talk about my personal life.'"

"Come up with anything good?"

"I didn't come up with anything."

(Here's something: Moore's been seen hanging out with Adam Goldstein, also called DJ AM, and best known for making upward of 25 grand per three hours of record spinning, having had gastric-bypass surgery, and being the former fiancé of Nicole Richie.)

"I've wondered, plagued by any body issues?"

"Sometimes I feel fine. Sometimes I don't feel so great. I'm a regular person. I'm not that thin. I'm okay with representing a different type than the normal Hollywood beauty ideal. But other people aren't so okay with that. I've been told that I have to lose weight for stuff before. It's mortifying. It's hard to have someone come up and go, 'You should lose a few pounds.' And they don't say it delicately. How can you? It's only happened to me once before. But once is enough to make you feel awful."

A few calls reveal that Moore is referring to License to Wed, this summer's romantic comedy with Robin Williams and The Office's John Krasinski. Some Warner Bros. executive had seen American Dreamz and deemed her too round. "All I can tell you is that I've never been on any production where some executive didn't say, 'Can't that actress lose weight?'" says the film's director, Ken Kwapis. "It's a horrible part of being a director in Hollywood." Ugly show business realities and obvious biases aside, Kwapis thinks License to Wed might be the showcase that flings Moore into the America's sweetheart throne that's been empty for so long. "I feel confident that this could be the role," he says. "It is so winning. The audience is just going to fall in love with her."

Krasinki certainly seems enamored with her. In his first leading-man role, he initially had misgivings about playing opposite a woman who'd grown up famous. "I expected that maybe Mandy was going to be living on her own planet," he says. "She wasn't at all. She's incredibly sweet and smart, and she cares so much. Nothing's half-assed with her. I wish I could say the same thing about myself when I was in my early twenties."

Even with the hide toughening that comes with spending a third of your life in the cattiest industry in the world, a girl can still make a stupid mistake. On a recent trip to Paris, Moore, unable to sleep, pulled out her laptop and ended up on a blog on which a photo of her was being dissected. "People are so mean," she says. She chronicles the things she read about herself—"She's fat. She's untalented. I wish she'd shut up. I don't want to hear another record from her." And then Moore did what she's always done, and the reason we still know her name: She rose in the morning, did her best to forget all those voices, and got right back to work.

Jenna Fischer Gets Reflective in Self Magazine

The Office star, Jenna Fischer, recently got self-reflective in the April issue of Self magazine. There were a few great pieces of the interview that didn't make it into the one-pager in the back of the magazine. Here's what you missed out on:

When there are a lot of people demanding my time and attention, I just remind myself how grateful I am to be working. Everyone on [The Office] set dreamed of going to Hollywood one day and working in this industry. It's really kind of a sweet, magical thing. I just imagine myself being a kid and dreaming about what that might be like one day, and now here I am. So if I can just get myself present to how grateful I am to be here, it really widens my plate. I love this phrase; it's not like you have too much on your plate, you just have to get a bigger plate.

When I moved from St. Louis to L.A., I was living in an apartment in West Hollywood that an old college friend had rented for us. Boy, was it a dump. There was no light. The windows didn't open and they were made of leaded glass so no light came through. It was a cave; my cat licked bald patches in his fur because he was depressed. And it was across the street from a gay porn movie theater and a sex-toy shop. My parents came out to visit me for the first time and my mom said, "Oh, there's a little theater right across the street—do you ever go there?" And I said, "Take a closer look. I don't think so."

Being named one of People's 50 Most Beautiful was so cool because I'd read that issue my whole life. As a little girl I would look through and dream about Hollywood, wondering what it was like. So to get to be in that issue was something that came full circle. I don't think of it so much from the beauty aspect but from the dreaming aspect. And also my cat was in it with me and he's quite handsome. The section I was in was "Beauties and Their Beasts" and I told my cat and he was so offended. He said, "I can't believe they called you a beast."

Office Romance Alert

Rumors are swirling that actress Rashida Jones and actor John Krasinski are dating. The two star on NBC's off-beat comedy, The Office, and their characters are in a relationship onscreen. Seems like real life might be imitating art. The couple did spend a little time dating last Spring, and it seems they're picking up where they left off. Rashida, daughter of Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones, has also appeared on the David E. Kelley drama Boston Public.

Quotables: Jenna Fischer

I would love to see what Quentin Tarantino could do with my pleasant-looking face in one of his awesome hardcore kick-ass movies. I think he is an incredible filmmaker who has a great sense of humor and a great visual style.

Dancing with the Stars Gets Picky

The nerve! Dancing with the Stars seems to be getting a bit full of itself. They had the audacity to reject our favorite receptionist! Jenna Fisher (Pam from The Office) recently told TV Guide:

You know, I tried to get on Dancing with the Stars, and they wouldn't take me. True story! I shot the first season of The Office, and I thought, "The show's going to get canceled, and I have to milk every opportunity I can." My manager called, my agent called, but they didn't bite.

Well, I will give them some slack since it was only the first season of the show, but still! I bet they are pissed now that they've seen Fancy New Beasley.
