What's Up With Jake and Reese?

I am a fan of the Reese Witherspoon/Jake Gyllenhaal love connection, mostly because they aren't out flaunting it and trying to get publicity (does Bennifer ring a bell?) So, I was interested in this news from Us Weekly that "Reese Witherspoon had an evening of laughs and libations at L.A.’s La Terza on June 16 with pal Renée Zellweger and six other friends." That's right, no Jakey in sight for her night out.

Us Weekly says that this is further evidence that their relationship has cooled. So every time a girl goes out with her girlfriends that means her relationship is in trouble? I'm not buying it, Us Weekly. You're gonna have to give me more than that before I give up on Reese and Jake.

Apparently they have an anonymous source so says: "She cares for Jake, but the timing is crappy. She doesn’t have enough emotional space for him right now." Still not buying it!!

Is Katie Holmes Really Tall or is Tom Cruise Really Short?

I think the answer is that Tom Cruise is really short. But I have to hand it to Katie - she's not putting away her high heels just because her husband is crazy vertically challenged.

According to People, this picture was taken after "pal David Beckham's victory, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes join the footballer and his wife Victoria Beckham for a late dinner in Madrid."

How are we feeling about Katie's new haircut? I would probably like it more if it didn't make her look like she was become a Victoria Beckham clone.

Mark Consuelos Hits Primetime

Taking a cue from his wife Kelly Ripa, former soap star Mark Consuelos hits primetime tonight with the premiere of NBC's new dating show, Age of Love. The show focuses on 30-year-old Aussie tennis star Mark Philippoussis and sends him down a dating path with women in theirs 20s and women in their 40s. TV Guide sat down with Mark to get the dirt on the new show and life with Kelly.

TVGuide.com: The last we "spoke," it was you crashing my Q&A with Kelly, trying to punch up her answers about favorite TV shows, slipping Anderson Cooper between Dancing with the Stars and Idol.
Mark Consuelos: [Laughs] Sorry about that.

TVGuide.com: First of all, congratulations on the TV-movie you just booked. That's good company: Nadine Velazquez, Erik Estrada, Mario Lopez....
Consuelos: Absolutely. It's going to be a blast.

TVGuide.com: Although I think it disproves the theory that you, Estrada and Mario can't be in the same project together.
Consuelos: [Laughs] Or that we actually are the same person. We've never been in the same room at the same time, so we can put all those rumors to rest.

TVGuide.com: All we're missing is Wilmer [Valderrama].
Consuelos: Exactly. And the guy who played Tattoo.

TVGuide.com: What's the sum total of your role on Age of Love? Are you narrating, overseeing the elimination ceremony, is there any "guy talk" with the other Mark?
Consuelos: That's pretty much it — you nailed it. I narrate it, I'm his wingman/guy-talker.... I do referee a few of the eliminations, but we kind of felt that sometimes that was [Philippoussis'] realm and it was weird to have me jumping in it. But it was good, I had a great time doing it. I've obviously never done or hosted a reality show, and I found the whole process fascinating. And watching the differences between the two age groups was mind-blowing.

TVGuide.com: Have you turned down reality pitches in the past?
Consuelos: Yeah, I have, I absolutely have. I'll tell you honestly, I'm a big fan of reality, and this show kind of intrigued me. I thought it was really, really cool.

TVGuide.com: Is there a catchphrase for when Mark kicks somebody off? Like, "Our love is not for the ages"?
Consuelos: [Laughs] No, no.... There isn't a catchphrase, but I like the catchphrase of what the show is — "cougars versus kittens."

TVGuide.com: Someone here wanted me to ask you: Do you find the term "cougar" demeaning at all?
Consuelos: You know what? I don't. I guess some people do, but I really don't.

TVGuide.com: As if "kittens" is empowering.
Consuelos: Exactly. It kind of describes what the show is. I think you and I should push for them to change the title to "Cougars vs Kittens."

TVGuide.com: Take us through Mark's realization of the setup, because he didn't know going into this that he would be choosing from two different age groups.
Consuelos: This guy was engaged to an 18-year-old at some point; he had a past dating younger girls, that was his angle. When he met the 40-year-olds first, if a picture says a thousands words, he was like, "Whoa, what did I get myself into?" And then they put me out there to talk to him, and I was like, "Guys, he's going to want to kick my ass!" [Laughs] But the women that they chose.... Listen, 40-year-old women are sexy — I think they are — and he completely had a change of heart. My motto throughout the whole thing was, "Just go into it with an open mind." He was really surprised by what he learned.

TVGuide.com: Did any cougars prey on you when you were a strapping young thing on All My Children?
Consuelos: Um... no. I was pretty much taken by the time I was on the soap opera [where he met Ripa].

TVGuide.com: "Gosh darn it."
Consuelos: Yeah, yeah, I know. But my wife is six months older than me, so technically.... At some point she's going to be a cougar!

TVGuide.com: Assuming that Kelly was the first-best thing to come out of your soap run, what was the second-best thing?
Consuelos: Working. Just working every day as an actor. Obviously by year seven I was tired of working [laughs], but it was a great experience. I grew up on that show, becoming a husband and a father.

TVGuide.com: What gifts are you angling for this Father's Day?
Consuelos: Mets tickets. That's also a good Mother's Day present! And I travel a lot, so framed pictures of my kids.... Oh, and this is kind of a shameless plug, but I got an Oral B rechargeable toothbrush that I love.

TVGuide.com: That's what keeps your teeth so white?
Consuelos: Exactly. [Laughs] It's all about the teeth, dude.

TVGuide.com: Lastly, I must point this out to you. I was at the newsstand, and the cover of one tabloid announced, "Kelly's Secret Plan to Save Her Marriage." Two questions: Did I just spoil the "secret" for you? And might her "secret plan" work?
Consuelos: It always does. No, she has no secret plan, she always knows exactly what to do. We are extremely boring. If our lives were half as interesting as what goes on in the tabloids...

What's Going On In Kelly Clarkson's World?

Your guess is as good as mine, but there's definitely trouble in paradise. Last week came word that she parted ways with her manager. There have also been rumors of a rift with big-time music head honcho Clive Davis, and now news that her summer tour has been canceled.

The excuse that "[T]ouring is just too much too soon" was given. "Ticket sales have not been what we anticipated," LiveNation's CEO says in a statement. "We came to the realization that we had bit off more than we could chew."

The complete axing of the entire tour is what has been most surprising to the music business. "To cancel the entire thing is a lot surprising," Billboard analyst Keith Caulfield tells TVGuide.com. "But considering the chain of events that have been happening for Kelly, at the same time it's like, 'Oh, here's another thing that's happened to her.' Things haven't been working out very well for this project from the get-go."

Part of the problem lies with her choice for her first single. "['Never Again'] really doesn't do very well in Top 40 radio," Caulfield notes. "It's fine to have 'screw you' songs, but perhaps it was too angry. There isn't a dash of hip-hop in it. It was an 'interesting' choice."

The future for the first winner of American Idol remains to be seen.

David Hasselhoff Gets Full Custody?!

I don't know what is more surprising ... the fact that Paris Hilton is still in jail or that David Hasselhoff walked out of a courtroom yesterday with full custody of his two daughters. Sure didn't see that one coming!

As his ex-wife, Pamela Bach, was reportedly in tears over the judge's decision, Hasselhoff told reporters outside the hearing, "The judge said, 'Enough is enough. These children have been through enough.'"

Cover Girl: Jessica Biel on Cosmo

It seems like the only thing that Jessica Biel has been working on lately is being squired around town by gorgeous men ... Derek Jeter, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Reynolds to name a few. The 25-year-old Colorado native is on the cover of July's Cosmo dishing about her upcoming movie with Kevin James and Adam Sandler.

This month, getting people to crack up will be a sign of a job well done. In her new movie, the comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Jessica portrays a gay-rights attorney who ends up falling for her client, played by Adam Sandler, who is pretending to be coupled up with Kevin James's character to receive domestic-partner benefits. "Finally, I get to play the goofy outgoing girl, which is much more my real personality," she says. Case in point: She and her group of girlfriends have a tradition of getting dressed up in crazy '70s clothes and neon wigs and going roller-skating at a Los Angeles rink. The other night, they even donned the wigs to stay in and play board games. "I am just not this aloof and sexy woman," she says.

Cover Girl: Angelina Jolie on Marie Claire Magazine

Actress and activist Angelina Jolie is everywhere lately, busily promoting her newest film, A Mighty Heart. This month, she's on the cover of Marie Claire magazine, dishing about her life with Brad Pitt, their four kids and her charitable causes.

If a wild-child role in Girl, Interrupted seemed just the right outlet for Jolie in her 20s, a project like A Mighty Heart, about geopolitics and real love, seems perfect for her now. Along with her far-reaching humanitarian work, Jolie, 32, has a real love -- perhaps you've heard -- with Pitt, whom she met while making 2005's Mr. and Mrs. Smith. "I wasn't looking at the time," Jolie says. "I was quite happy having lovers and being a single mom" -- to Maddox, whom she'd adopted in March 2002 from a Cambodian orphanage with second husband Billy Bob Thornton. "The last thing I was looking for was somebody to have a relationship with."

Now it's Jolie and Pitt, together, visiting sites of deprivation around the globe -- touring earthquake-devastated Pakistan in 2005, spending Christmas with Colombian refugees in Costa Rica last December -- trying to marshal resources for desperate families as part of Jolie's work as the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees; there is also the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, through which they donated $1 million in May to relief efforts in Darfur. Reflecting the degree to which the personal and the political are, for them, inextricable, they purchased a home at yet another site of unimaginable devastation, New Orleans, where Pitt has been laboring to put his love of green architecture and construction to good use. "It's a very big, very frustrating, complex problem," Jolie says. "I see Brad working so hard -- working out some building, mapping out a street -- and then we're sitting there, and another mother is talking about how the levees aren't fixed." She can't hide her annoyance. "Big decisions aren't [being] made on a higher level -- it is so much wasted effort. I have gotten really frustrated with the sense of a lack of justice in the world."

If Jolie and Pitt are united in their causes, they seem virtually fused in parenthood. In addition to Maddox, who's about to turn 6, there is 2-year-old Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia in 2005; 3-year-old Pax, whom Jolie brought home from Vietnam in 2007; and 14-month-old Shiloh, their biological daughter.

Isaiah Washington Ousted from Grey's Anatomy

Where there's smoke, there's fire. Ever since actor Isaiah Washington mouthed off more than once, there have been rumors swirling that his time on ABC's hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy was limited. Turns out, the rumors were right.

An ABC Studios spokesperson confirmed yesterday that the actor's contract option has not been picked up.

Washington's rep, Howard Bragman, confirmed the news, saying that the show's executive producer Shonda Rhimes told him earlier yesterday that he was not being invited back to the show. In a statement, Washington, referencing the iconic line from Network, said, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

Alrighty then.

Andy and Tessa - Still Going Strong

Recent Bachelor Andy Baldwin took his betrothed, Tessa Horst, to Hawaii for Memorial Day weekend. Judging by the beach pictures floating around the net, the two are still very happily together. Right before their holiday weekend in Hawaii, the couple sat down with Us magazine to catch up.

Usmagazine.com: Congratulations! You both must be so thrilled after having to keep your relationship a secret since the show wrapped in March. What do you have planned now that America knows that you are in love and engaged?
Andy Baldwin: We’ve been walking around New York and I’ve been screaming it at the top of my lungs! It’s not a secret any longer! We finished the show two months ago and to have to watch it all over again and it’s been really hard– especially on Tessa – to have all that drudged up.
Tessa Horst: It’s a huge relief to have it over. It’s been great moving forward with Andy since the show’s been wrapping, but it was hard that everyone around us was watching it as if it was present. We’re really excited to move forward from here.

Usmagagazine.com: You no doubt learned quite a bit about each other during the course of the show, but what have you learned about each other since?
AB: We’ve learned a lot! [Laughs] We’ve seen each other four times and talked to each other over the phone [while the show was airing]. We’ve definitely commented how much better we know each other now than we did at the end of the show. The risk we took in getting engaged is getting better and better. There are some things that Tessa has found out about me…
TH: Andy snores! [Laughs] He wakes up at 5 a.m. every morning – as if that’s a normal time to get up and start your day!
AB: Tessa’s a good cook! [Pause] And she sweats a lot from her armpits! [Laughs]

Usmagazine.com: Andy, last time we spoke, you told me you were anxious to find a new workout buddy to jog and watch Hawaiian sunsets with. Have you been home to Hawaii yet?
AB: I was back at home in Hawaii the day we finished filming and back to work the next day in my uniform taking care of my guys. I’ve done a few media trips back and forth, but I’m really excited to welcome Tessa back. We’re going home this Friday for Memorial Day weekend and plan to give her a big aloha welcome!

Usmagazine.com: Lastly, what will make your reality TV romance work when previous reality couples’ romances fizzled?
AB: We’ve found true love. We’re real people and that’s what it comes down to. We’re very optimistic and more in love now than ever – that’s such a great feeling!
TH: We were realistic going through the process and there were few surprises. I felt by the time the show wrapped that I knew who Andy was and he knew who I was. That wasn’t going to change.

Alexis Bledel Finds Life After Gilmore Girls

At least even with Gilmore Girls ending, we don't have to wait too long to see Alexis Bledel again. She's playing Kate Peterson in her latest film I'm Reed Fish (which is in theaters now). She recently sat down with TV Guide magazine to talk about life after Gilmore Girls.

TVGuide.com: How do you feel about Logan (Matt Czuchry) and Rory's breakup and how the series ended in general?
Alexis Bledel: I guess it's not what people might have expected as far as their relationship goes, but it's something that happens to a lot of people when they graduate from school and go off to start their lives elsewhere. I think it's a make-or-break [time] for a lot of relationships. I felt pretty strongly that I wanted my character to finish up somewhere that we would have liked to see her finish when the whole story started, because she was so driven and academic and I wanted to return to that in some ways. She did get pretty caught up in [the] relationship — in her relationships with guys in general, not that that's a bad thing — but it seemed to end on a strong note. She made a choice that was very true to herself.

TVGuide.com: Did you feel the job she got was sudden?
Bledel: Well, they needed something. She needed to get some kind of job, and I like that she didn't get hired for something right away. I hope it's not too auspicious a job for her to get right off the bat, but I guess she did have somebody she knew who hooked her up. Hopefully that makes a little bit of sense. But yeah, they needed for her to go off into the world in some way or another. I like that it was for Barack Obama's campaign.

TVGuide.com: Do you think 13 more episodes could have resolved the story lines any better?
Bledel: It was an organic ending for Rory to graduate from college, because it all started with trying to get her into prep school and figuring out how to pay for it because she had so much potential. For it to end this way felt good to me, because I think we would have been trying to come up with things if we had done more [episodes].

TVGuide.com: And you would have entered this whole other post-college territory.
Bledel: Yeah, and the relationship between Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Luke (Scott Patterson) had been played out and needed [to be resolved] in some direction. Where it left off — kind of hopeful — I like that, too, because she has entertained all the possibilities with Rory's dad.

TVGuide.com: Yeah, it just lets fans fantasize.
Bledel: Right.

TVGuide.com: What will you miss most about playing Rory? The fast talking?
Bledel: [Laughs] No. I was certainly lucky to play a teenage character that was so academic and intelligent and unique from a lot of other characters on television, as far as teenagers go, but I'll be happy to play adults. If I don't get to play characters as unique as she is, then I'd miss that.

TVGuide.com: Is it important to you to break away from being known as Rory?
Bledel: I don't know how much it's possible to completely get away from it. I'm looking forward to playing different characters and seeing how far I can stretch, but I don't know that it's a good idea to do something just because it's different. I'm more concerned that the projects I'm involved with are strong material.

TVGuide.com: I watched I'm Reed Fish and it's really simple with this big message behind it. Why did you want to be in the film?

Bledel: It felt a little different from a lot of things I read, because it's a movie within a movie and I like the trick that happens in the middle that I don't really want to give away. The small town felt, in a way, like Stars Hollow; it's a very strong setting for a story to take place in. It's all-inclusive — it's a tiny little town and has all these unique characters.

TVGuide.com: And everybody knows everybody.
Bledel: And everybody knows everybody. That's why I liked it.

TVGuide.com: The movie-within-a-movie aspect surprised me, but it took on this whole new meaning, so it was a good twist.
Bledel: Oh, good. Yeah, that's what drew me to it.

TVGuide.com: Are you working on anything else?
Bledel: I'm hoping that a few independent projects come together, but nothing definite yet. I'm still reading stuff and seeing what else is going to come together.

Sandra Bullock Going Back to Work

It's been a little while since actress Sandra Bullock was in a movie. I think she's a fun, quirky actress, so I was happy to hear that she's signed on for another role in a romantic comedy. Set to star in The Proposal, the movie is about a book editor who marries her assistant to avoid deportation back to Canada.

Producer David Hoberman (of Monk fame), said, "This woman starts off as a hard case and ends up falling in love for the first time." Ok, Dave, way to spoil the movie for us.

Sarah Jessica Parker Dishes on Bitten, Matthew and James

Fresh from the launch of her new, affordable fashion conscience clothing line, the former Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker sat down with People magazine to dish on what life is like lately with the two men she loves most.

You've been offered design jobs before. Why take this one, for a budget chain?
It always seemed very unsavory to ponder a real design job. I don't sketch. I don't know how to sew. But I am acutely aware of what it means to not have the things you need, let alone the things you want. And you should be able to have affordable, quality fashion.

Every piece from your line is less than $20 – but if a woman's going to splurge on one item, what should it be?
I tend to be someone who splurges on shoes. I know a lot of people splurge on decorative jackets, but I don't because I don't look good in them. I've got too much hair, and I don't know how to pull it up myself to get it out of the way of the jacket!

What did you learn, style-wise, from being on Sex and the City?
That there shouldn't be rules! I always believed in hard-core aesthetic rules – "No white after Labor Day." And I matched, because I thought that was ladylike. I matched my clothes my whole life – at least until [costume designer] Pat Field got ahold of me!

James Wilkie is 4 now. Has he begun asking tough questions?
He goes to school with a lot of kids who have different families from his, so he'll be like, "Jen has two mommas" or "Charlie has two poppas." And so we've been talking about what it is to be gay; I want him to understand it in terms that aren't overwhelming to him. But he asks about everything. Death is a very big conversation piece.

Do you have trouble explaining these things to him?
Actually, the things that are far more complicated for me to answer are any kind of science questions. He has a really keen interest in science. I have basic fundamental knowledge – but I don't know what he's going to do about homework! I'm glad my husband's smart about that sort of thing.

Your 10th wedding anniversary was May 19. How did you celebrate?
In a private way! He did write me a card, and I didn't have to ask, which was really nice. He's been shooting a movie, so he's not been around much, but we had a great, great anniversary.

In Hollywood 10 years is a big deal, so congratulations.
I know! And it's 15 total [since we met]. I'm really shocked! Not because I'm shocked that we lasted?it's just a lot of years. You can't stop time!
